
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (born July 9, 1956) is an American actor and filmmaker. He is well-known for his comedy and dramatic parts and is considered to be an American famous cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother, who was initially known as "Fraga" was part of a Portuguese family. His father was mainly English. Tom was raised in what he has called"a "fractured" family. He had no experience acting in college and attributes his inability get a role in a college production as the reason he started his career. He went to the downtown area, took part in a community production of a theater, and was then given an invitation by the director that play to go to Cleveland, and there his acting career began.
