Carey was a fashion model. She stands almost 5'10" tall and was popular among high-end American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc. Her father, who was a renowned scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of Year award, is an accomplished scientist. Her father was a scientist who travelled around the world as part of his career. While she attended an institution called the University of Colorado, Carey began to model on the side. The Ford's model agency located in New York noticed her and offered to help. In the year 1980, she emigrated to France for a brief period of time, and lived in Paris and Bordeaux and then returned back to New York in order to pursue her modeling career. The model was featured on Vogue as well as Glamour covers. When she was modeling and continued to pursue her studies full-time for a literature major in New York University. After graduation, in New York she began to study acting. In 1986, she got her first acting role as a small part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. She is a rock climber ski, windsurfing, and skiing.
